MPN Chronicles Podcast
by David Wallace
I started 2020 with a goal to lose weight before the pandemic reared its ugly head. I changed the way I was eating, lobbied my hematologist for a change in PV meds (no more Rux/Peg combo, just Pegasys) and I started walking again. When Covid hit, I decided to step up my exercise routine big time, as I knew this was the best way for me to fight back, stay in shape and keep a positive mindset.
Listen to the Episode for all the good stuff! I have plenty to talk about, this is just a brief view. Next episode will expanded on MPN related items not discussed here, coming soon, so stay tuned.
Exercise included fast walking 3 to 4 miles on trails and pavement, several times a week. I used a home workout app doing pushups, crunches, planks, jumping jacks among others almost daily, (here’s the one I used, just the parts I was comfortable with). Everything I was doing relied heavily on “normal performance” of the big toes.
All of the intense workouts uncovered an existing degenerative arthritis problem…
It’s been a tough road lately for numerous reasons (the surgery was a biggie), no removal of stitches at 2 weeks and very painful! But thankful, this was considered an excellent outcome and no bad stuff going on post-op. I’ve learned a lot along the way and doing my best to stay positive.
Here are a couple of terms that were discussed:
Today was the first day I put on tennis shoes, my goal was taking a short motorcycle ride testing out my left shifting toe. Mission accomplished, short and sweet….man if feels good to be able to do that again! I’m on my way back!
